FAQ
How is ACT different from traditional talk therapy?
ACT does not focus solely on reducing symptoms or analyzing problems. Instead, it helps you:
- Build awareness of your thoughts and emotions
- Reduce the struggle with painful internal experiences
- Develop self-compassion
- Clarify your values
- Take meaningful action aligned with those values
The goal is not to “feel better” first, but to build a life that feels meaningful — even while difficult feelings arise.
Do you offer virtual therapy in Michigan?
Yes. Secure telehealth sessions are available to clients who reside in Michigan.
What can I expect in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity to explore what brings you to therapy, your goals, and how ACT may support you. We’ll begin identifying patterns that may be keeping you stuck and outline a path toward greater flexibility and alignment with your values.
How can I pay?
Our practice currently accepts private pay and auto cases. We cannot offer a superbill as we are a non-participating provider. We plan to accept major insurances in the near future.
How long are sessions?
Please plan for 90 minutes for the first intake appointment. Follow up individual sessions are typically 50–55 minutes. Frequency is usually weekly at the beginning and may shift over time based on your needs.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Therapy is confidential under Michigan law and professional ethical guidelines, with specific legal exceptions (such as risk of harm, abuse/neglect reporting, or court orders). These limits will be reviewed at the start of treatment.
How do I get started?
The best first step is scheduling a complimentary 15-minute consultation call. This allows us to discuss your goals, answer questions, and determine whether working together feels like a good fit. You can schedule online using the booking link at the top of the page or call the front office.
